Description
Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) to support the forthcoming Greater Manchester Joint Minerals and Waste Plan (GMJMWP). The 10 Greater Manchester authorities (Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan) are working together to produce the Greater Manchester Joint Minerals and Waste Plan. This will be a single plan to replace the existing Minerals Plan and Waste Plan, which were adopted in 2013 and 2012 respectively.
The plan will be developed working in partnership with local authorities and a specialist third-party and will be produced in line with the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning)(England) Regulations 2026 under the new plan-making system. The SEA will be required as part of this work, to identify any environmental effects as a result of implementing the plan, and any reasonable alternatives. The timetable for the GMJMWP is to be agreed but, under transitional arrangements set out in the 2026 Regulations, the 10 authorities are required to give notice of commencement of plan making before 31st December 2026 and to pass through Gateway 1 by 30th April 2027.
