Description

The University of Lancashire is seeking to appoint a specialist provider of mountain guiding, instructional and programme oversight services to support delivery of its internationally recognised MSc/PGDip in Mountain Medicine. This unique postgraduate programme combines advanced medical education with practical mountain, climbing, rescue and expedition skills training delivered across the UK and internationally. The successful supplier will provide a Lead Guide, instructional personnel and professional advice to support up to approximately 91 instructor days and 30 hours of Lead Guide activity per annum.

The programme is accredited under the International Diploma in Mountain Medicine (DiMM) framework, jointly recognised by the UIAA (International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation), ICAR (International Commission for Alpine Rescue) and ISMM (International Society for Mountain Medicine). The University is one of a limited number of institutions worldwide authorised to deliver the Diploma and, on successful completion, students are awarded the internationally recognised DiMM qualification.

The appointed supplier will play a key role in maintaining compliance with current DiMM regulations through the provision of appropriately qualified mountain professionals, including IFMGA/UIAGM Mountain Guide oversight, while supporting the programme's integrated educational approach. Instructional staff will work alongside the University's clinical teaching team to deliver a progressive curriculum that develops students' mountaineering, rescue, leadership and decision-making capabilities within the context of mountain and expedition medicine.

Full details of the University's requirements are contained within the Specification (Appendix 3).
