Use API data in your own business

Updated 2 Oct 2026

You can use API data inside your own business and share single records with clients in small numbers; you cannot resell it, publish it or build a competing service with it.

This is a plain summary of the TenderSignal API Terms, version 1.1. Read the full terms at tendersignal.co.uk/api-terms. If anything here differs from them, the terms apply.

What you can do

For as long as your plan is active, you can use, copy, store and adapt the data for your own internal business purposes (clause 3.1). That includes your CRM, internal reports, dashboards and bid process. Your employees, and contractors working for you, can use it too.

You can use an AI assistant connected to the API to search, summarise or analyse the data for your own business, as long as the provider is not allowed to use the data to train or improve its services (clause 3.3). Any AI system you build or train on the data must be for your internal use only and not made available to anyone else (clause 6.2).

Sharing with clients

You can share individual records with your own clients and professional advisers where this is incidental to a service you provide to them, such as sending a client a tender you think they should bid for, or including records in a bid report (clause 4.1). Share no more than fifty records with any one recipient in a calendar month. Do not share them as a continuous, automated or self-service feed, or through a portal or tool your clients can search themselves (clause 4.2). Beyond that, the data stays within your own business (clause 4.3).

What you cannot do

You cannot resell or redistribute the data (clause 5.1), publish it, or make it publicly available, whether on a website, in a dataset, in a feed or through an API of your own (clause 5.2). You cannot use it to build or supply a product or service that gives other people tender information, alerts or renewal predictions, or that would stand in for TenderSignal (clause 6.1). You cannot put it into a third-party service on terms that let the provider keep it or train on it (clause 6.3). Keys belong to your business: do not share them outside it.

You also cannot use the data to work out where or how we collect our information, such as which buyers publish where (clause 7.1). Following a link in a record to respond to that opportunity is fine.

Buyer contact details

Records can include the names, email addresses and phone numbers of people who work for public bodies and other buyers. They are included for accounts billed in the UK, the European Economic Area or a country the UK government recognises as having adequate data protection. Demo accounts get none.

We pass these details to you as an independent controller, so you become responsible for how you use them under data protection law. Use them only to contact the buyer about the opportunity or contract they relate to (clause 10.2). Do not add them to marketing lists, share them outside your business or combine them into profiles of people.

Credit the public sources

Some records come from public sector notices published under the Open Government Licence or a Creative Commons licence. Wherever you show records outside your own systems, as the sharing rules allow, include or link to the attribution statement that comes with every response (clause 8.1). The developers page shows it in full.

When your plan ends

Your licence lasts while your plan is active. Within 30 days of it ending, delete the data you received through the API (clause 15.2). You can keep records for opportunities you bid for or were actively pursuing, records you have put into your own bid, contract or client documents, summaries that do not contain records, routine back-ups until they are overwritten, and anything the law requires you to keep. Contact details are treated more strictly, so keep them only with correspondence you have already had about that opportunity.

Questions

If you are not sure whether something is allowed, email [email protected] before you build it.

Common questions

Can I show a tender to a client?

Yes. Sharing individual records with your own clients and advisers is fine when it is incidental to a service you provide to them, up to fifty records per recipient in a calendar month. Include the attribution statement when you do.

Can I put the data on my website?

No. Publishing the data or making it publicly available is not allowed under the API Terms.
