Public sector technology buying works differently from most other categories, and the difference catches suppliers out. A large share of government IT never appears as an open tender at all. It is called off from a framework, where buyers run a mini-competition among suppliers already appointed to a panel. If you are not on the framework, that work is effectively invisible, which makes framework admission the single highest-value move an IT supplier can make.

The frameworks that carry the most volume are the Government Commercial Agency's G-Cloud (RM1557) for cloud services, Digital Outcomes and Specialists for digital delivery teams, Technology Services 4 (RM6190) for wider IT services and Cyber Security Services. Each reopens for applications periodically rather than continuously, so knowing when the window opens matters as much as watching for contracts.

Accreditation is the other gate. Cyber Essentials is routinely required for government IT work, and its absence disqualifies otherwise strong bids at the selection stage, before anyone reads the technical response.

Alerts cover open tenders and publicly advertised framework opportunities (call-off mini-competitions are sent privately to framework suppliers), across central government, councils, the NHS and the wider public sector. Filter by CPV and region so a managed service provider and a software vendor receive genuinely different feeds.

IT tender alerts: common questions

Are government IT tender alerts free?

Yes, to start. Searching is free, and so is one saved search with its 3 newest matches in your account and a Tuesday email of how many new IT opportunities it found, with no card. Free lets you browse and discover: you can browse, search, filter and open every live tender. Pro does the work for you. For £39 a month + VAT, new IT opportunities matching your saved searches arrive by email every morning, ranked by fit, with unlimited saved searches, tender tracking and an AI fit score.

Do I need Cyber Essentials to win government IT contracts?

For most central government IT work, yes, and it is increasingly expected across the wider public sector too. Because it is checked at the selection stage, a missing certification disqualifies a bid before the technical response is read. It is worth holding before you start bidding rather than obtaining it against a deadline.

What are the main UK government IT frameworks?

The Government Commercial Agency (formerly Crown Commercial Service) runs G-Cloud (RM1557) for cloud and SaaS, Digital Outcomes and Specialists for digital delivery teams, Technology Services 4 (RM6190) for broader IT services and Cyber Security Services. A substantial share of public sector IT is bought through these rather than by open tender, so framework admission is often the prerequisite for seeing the work at all.

What CPV codes should IT companies monitor?

CPV division 72 covers IT services, and division 48 covers software packages and information systems. Between them they capture most public sector technology buying. Monitoring both matters, because whether a requirement is classified as a service or a software purchase often depends on how the buyer framed it rather than on what you would deliver.
