Choose your sectors and regions
Updated 2 Oct 2026
Pick the sectors you work in and, if you like, the regions you cover, to set your browse defaults; change them any time in Settings.
Your sectors tell TenderSignal what kind of work you do, and your regions say where you want to find it. Choose them once during setup and the browse page starts out showing relevant tenders, and your dashboard shows contracts due back in your sectors. You can change both whenever your business changes.
Choose them during setup
Setup has two steps, shown as "Step 1 of 2" and "Step 2 of 2" at the top of the page.
Step 1: Tell us about your business
- Optionally enter your Company or trading name.
- Under What does your business do?, select one or more sectors. This part is required.
- Select Continue.
You choose from 17 plain-English sectors, including Construction and Civil Engineering, IT and Software, Data and Digital, Healthcare and Medical, Social Care, Facilities and Property Management, Professional Services and Consulting, Engineering and Manufacturing, Environmental and Utilities, Energy, Transport and Logistics, Security Services, Education and Training, Marketing and Communications, Legal and Financial Services, Goods and Supplies, and Cultural and Recreation. Pick every sector that applies, not only your main one.
Step 2: Regions
Step 2 is called Create your first search, and it includes an optional Filter by region section. Tick the regions you want, or leave it blank for the whole UK. The options are:
- London, South East, South West, East of England
- East Midlands, West Midlands, Yorkshire
- North West, North East
- Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland
- Ireland, EU
You can select several. UK-wide means no region restriction. If you change your mind, select Clear: search all UK. When you are done, select Set up my alerts. The rest of this step is covered in Create your first saved search.
Change them later
- Open Settings from the account menu, then choose Preferences in the Settings menu.
- Under Your sectors, tick or untick sectors. Each change saves straight away, and a "Sectors updated" message confirms it. A counter shows how many you have selected.
- Under Regions, tick the regions you want and select Save regions. To remove the restriction, select Reset to all UK, then Save regions.
Your sectors and regions set the starting filters on the browse page. The page shows "Showing X of Y live tenders", and you can select Clear filters, or choose All regions, to see everything.
Good to know
- Sectors are broad on purpose. Your matches and email alerts come from the keywords in your saved searches, so add keywords there for the work you want to hear about.
- Choosing a sector never locks anything away. Clear the filters on the browse page and every live tender is there.
- Ireland and EU appear as separate region options alongside the UK regions, so you can include them without leaving this screen. There is also a European tenders section under Preferences.
- Not sure which sectors fit? Pick the two or three closest and refine later. Changing them takes seconds.
Next step
Create your first saved search so matching tenders start arriving on your dashboard.
Common questions
Do I have to choose a region?
No. Leave regions blank, or choose UK-wide, and browsing is not limited to any region.
Can I change my sectors later?
Yes. Open Settings, then Preferences, and tick or untick sectors. They save as soon as you click.
